Flower Care:- Lengthen the Life of Your Arrangement 

A little extra care can make a big difference for any size flower arrangement or fresh flower bouquet. Most floral arrangements last 4-7 days or longer, depending on the flowers used and the care they receive, if tended to. Here are the three top tips for looking after your flowers:  
Water  Keep the vase filled (or floral foam soaked) with water containing the flower food we gave you. Flower foods make flowers last longer but it is important to follow the mixing directions on the flower food packet. Most packets are to be mixed with c a pint of water. Flower foods should not be diluted with more water than is specified on the packet. 

Food & Temperature If the flower food solution becomes cloudy, replace it entirely with properly mixed flower food solution. If possible, re-cut stems by removing one to two inches with a sharp knife. Be sure to use a sharp knife or clippers that will not crush the stems. Immediately place the stems into solution. Be careful not to cut yourself!


Top 10 Flower Care Tips

• Buy flowers when buds are beginning to show some colour
• Make sure they are fresh. Do not buy flowers with yellow or wilted leaves.
• Leave freshly bought flowers wrapped and let them drink up clean water for a few hours.
• Make sure the vase has been thoroughly scrubbed using a brush.
• Add Flower food to the clean vase water; the flowers will open better and last longer. Use the correct quantity.
• Use a sharp knife to cut 1 to 3 centimetres off the stems at an angle. Never break or flatten the stems; this also applies to woody stems. Some flowers should not be cut, such as Euphorbia fulgens.
• Leaves pollute the vase water and reduce the life of your flowers, so remove all leaves below waterline.
• Do not put flowers in the sun or in a draught, as they may wilt. Do not put the vase next to the fruit bowl, it will reduce the life of your flowers.
• Check the water level daily because some flowers are very thirsty.
• Bouvardias, lilacs and other forced shrubs require special shrub food. Ask your florist for it. Leave Daffodils for a day to 'slime-out' (get rid of the slime from their stems) before you mix them with other flowers.
